Road traffic police officers spotted a Mazda passenger car in the Zagrodno commune (Złotoryja County), near the A4 motorway junction. They then activated the signals ordering the vehicle to stop in order to carry out a roadside inspection. The driver’s reaction was completely the opposite. He accelerated sharply and began to flee. The officers immediately set off in pursuit. The Mazda, bearing German registration plates, entered the motorway and continued its escape. At the next junction, it left the motorway and headed toward the town of Zagrodno.

During the reckless escape, the driver repeatedly violated traffic regulations, forced other drivers to move into the right lane, and cut off the police officers, creating dangerous situations both for the officers and for other road users.

At one point, the car turned onto a dirt road, where police officers stopped it despite the occupants’ attempt to continue fleeing. A 30-year-old woman was behind the wheel, and a 41-year-old man was the passenger; both were residents of Bolesławiec County. During the investigation, officers established that both had a lot to answer for. The woman had violated a court-imposed driving ban, which had resulted from her driving a car while intoxicated. A drug test showed that she was under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamine. Her blood was taken for further testing. The passenger, in turn, was wanted by the justice system. For a previous offense involving the counterfeiting of money, he was to serve a one-year prison sentence.

A check of the car in police systems showed that it was uninsured and not registered in Poland, while the German registration plates had been transferred from another vehicle. The car was towed to a police impound lot, and the couple was detained and taken to the County Police Headquarters in Złotoryja. The man has already been sent to prison, while the woman’s further fate will be decided by the court. She faces a fine for the traffic offenses, while failure to stop for a roadside inspection, driving under the influence of drugs, and violating the court-imposed driving ban carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.
