At the request of the Kamienna Góra District Prosecutor’s Office, the court temporarily detained Monika B., a 29-year-old suspect in cooperating in “grandchild/child” scams, for three months. The perpetrators defrauded three victims of nearly PLN 150,000.
Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office:
The frauds against female residents of Kamienna Góra and Lwówek counties took place on February 1, 2021. Each time, the perpetrators informed the women by telephone about an alleged fatal car accident supposedly caused by their daughter or son. They claimed that handing over money as bail was the only way to prevent the alleged perpetrator of the accident from being temporarily detained.
A courier sent by the fraudsters arrived to collect the cash. One of the victims handed the criminals PLN 80,000. The other defrauded women lost approximately PLN 45,000 and PLN 20,000.
Investigators:
After establishing that one of the perpetrators was 29-year-old Monika B., she was detained and brought before the Kamienna Góra District Prosecutor’s Office. The woman was charged with committing three fraud offences jointly and in agreement with other people.
B. faces a prison sentence of between six months and as many as eight years. The investigation is ongoing.
