At Wednesday’s meeting of Bolesławiec City Council, local government officials adopted a resolution to begin preparing a local spatial development plan for the area around M. Kutuzowa–1 Maja streets. City Hall officials:

The plan covers an area of 0.11 hectares, designated in the current plan as public services land. The amendment concerns land owned by the Municipality of Bolesławiec, where the Museum of Ceramics buildings are currently located. The new provisions of the local spatial development plan will allow multi-family residential development on the property.

They also add:

It is worth recalling that the Department of City History operates in the building at 14 Kutuzowa Street. This function will be maintained until the collections are moved to the Pückler Palace on Zgorzelecka Street, which will be adapted as the new headquarters of the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. The Municipality of Bolesławiec received funding to rebuild the building on Zgorzelecka Street for the Museum of Ceramics as part of the project “Poland and Norway on the European Ceramic Route: including Bolesławiec and Porsgrunn in an international cooperation network of cities with ceramic traditions.” The total project value is PLN 19,994,046.98, while the awarded funding amounts to PLN 15,108,099.97. In mid-January 2021, the Municipality of Bolesławiec announced a tender to carry out the project.

During the discussion of the draft resolution, Dariusz Filistyński of the Bezpartyjni i Ziemia Bolesławiecka club said he had “serious concerns” that offices would be built in the very center of the city. And what about parking spaces then?

Marta Gęsikowska, head of the Spatial Management and Information Department at Bolesławiec City Hall:

I understand all the concerns; this is only the first stage for now: we are beginning to prepare the plan. All of the councillor’s concerns will be considered during the procedure.

She added that constructing underground parking in the case of this property is not impossible. She also said that the construction of offices cannot be ruled out. “All these issues will be analyzed during the planning procedure,” she assured. “The Heritage Conservator will oversee this procedure.”

Councillors adopted the resolution in question with 14 votes in favor. Those who abstained were Dariusz Filistyński, three councillors from Impulsu Miasta (Iwona Bojko, Maciej Małkowski and Łukasz Molak) and Dawid Sarbak of Law and Justice.

It is not known what will ultimately be built at the site. It is known, however, that the building currently housing the Department of City History will remain unchanged, at least from the outside. The street frontage is also to be recreated—although, of course, not identically. We will certainly return to this topic.
