The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Lubin. “The duty officer at the police headquarters was notified about a woman under the influence of alcohol who had come to the kindergarten to pick up her 6-year-old child,” reports asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the Komenda Powiatowa Policji w Lubinie. “The caregiver noticed that the boy’s mother was probably under the influence of alcohol and refused to hand the child over to her.

The kindergarten teacher’s suspicions were confirmed. Police officers who arrived at the scene checked the woman’s sobriety. The test showed that the 30-year-old had nearly 2.5 per mille of alcohol in her system. The officers also established that, at the same time, another child of the irresponsible woman—a 9-year-old girl—was at home in the unlocked apartment without supervision.

It emerged that the 30-year-old woman was raising both children alone. By court decision, the siblings were placed in the care of the Lubin Powiatowe Centrum Opieki i Wychowania. The family court was also notified of the case.

The 30-year-old may now face a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison.
