The whole story began in April this year. A resident of the Silesian Voivodeship, serving in the military in Bolesławiec, met 61-year-old Stanisław F. at the PKP railway station in Wrocław. F. introduced himself as a professor of psychology and a retired colonel. The men exchanged telephone numbers.
Soon afterwards, F. informed the young soldier that he was staying in Bolesławiec. When they met, the 61-year-old, claiming to have influence at the Ministry of National Defence, promised the victim help in gaining admission to the Military University of Technology in Warsaw and, at the same time, borrowed PLN 600 from him.
During their next meeting, which took place in Kraków, F. borrowed a further PLN 500 from the soldier. He suggested that the money would cover the costs of meetings with people who would finalise the formalities related to admission to the university.
The victim became suspicious and notified the Wrocław police in August. The investigation was opened by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec. It was established that the supposed professor of psychology was a repeatedly convicted fraudster.
The prosecutor’s office charged F. with claiming to have influence at the Ministry of National Defence and with fraud. The 61-year-old confessed and submitted a request to voluntarily submit to the punishment agreed with the prosecutor: eight months in prison and repayment of the defrauded amount (PLN 1,100).
