On Wednesday, December 9, Bolesławiec police officers received two reports of attempted “grandchild” scams. KPP:

A woman called Bolesławiec residents on a landline, pretending to be a family member. The fraudster claimed that a tragic accident had occurred and that a large amount of cash was urgently needed.

Interestingly, in the first case the woman pretended to be the caller’s granddaughter. (She claimed that her father had caused an accident in which a child was injured, and that the senior woman had to hand over money so that her son would not go to prison).

In the second case, there were several twists. The caller first pretended to be the woman’s granddaughter, then her niece, and later her sister’s daughter. When all these attempts failed, she tried to convince her that she was a policewoman from the Bolesławiec police station.

Officers:

In both cases, the senior women realized that someone was trying to defraud them and notified the Police.

What are the rules for staying safe as a senior?

  1. Never hand your money to a stranger.
  2. Never call numbers provided by the person on the phone.
  3. Call your relatives and ask whether they really need help.
  4. Immediately inform the Police about an attempted scam.
