The death of 9-month-old Szymon from Legnica was reported by us on 7 December. The child’s father and mother were detained in connection with the case. At the time of their detention, both were drunk. As reported by polsatnews.pl:
Lidia Tkaczyszyn, a prosecutor and spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, said that the prosecutor had charged the child’s father with murder with particular cruelty and with a motive deserving special condemnation.
“To calm the child’s crying, the man struck him more than a dozen times with his hand and with an instrument. He hit various parts of the body, including the head, causing craniocerebral injuries that led to his death,” she said.
The man confessed to the charge brought against him. The prosecutor’s office filed a request with the court for his detention, and a similar request is also to be filed against the woman.
9-month-old Szymon was the woman’s eighth child and her first with the 46-year-old man. The court had deprived the woman of parental rights over her other seven children. The man had previously been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
