A short while later, police officers patrolling the Legnickie Pole area received a report from a man who claimed that his 24-year-old son had been kidnapped. According to his account, two masked perpetrators had allegedly forced the young man to drive the Ford and then fled the scene after the accident.

Legnica police officers quickly began to suspect that the story presented might have little to do with reality. Their attention was drawn to the 24-year-old, who was linked to the incident on the motorway.

The examination showed that the man had more than 0.5 per mille of alcohol in his breath. A drug test, meanwhile, returned a positive result for amphetamine/methamphetamine. Blood was taken from the 24-year-old for further tests. It also turned out that his driving privileges had been revoked.

The truth came to light at the hospital. The 24-year-old admitted to police officers that he had made up the kidnapping story. He was the one driving the Ford and was involved in the incident on the A4. As he explained, he had invented the kidnapping because he was afraid of his parents’ reaction.

The man will face charges for driving a vehicle while intoxicated despite having his driving privileges revoked, as well as causing a threat to road traffic safety.

For the offence, the 24-year-old faces up to 3 years in prison.
