On May 10, 2026, a tragedy occurred. Investigators determined that the accused, under the influence of alcohol, started a domestic altercation. During it, he allegedly repeatedly struck his mother in the head with his fists and then strangled her, causing her death.

According to the prosecutor’s findings, after committing the crime, the man left the woman’s body on the floor of one of the rooms. He did not call for help or inform any emergency services or relatives about the incident. The body remained in the apartment until the following day.

On May 11, the deceased woman’s brother notified the police about the tragedy.

During the investigation, the 52-year-old was charged with murder under Article 148 § 1 of the Criminal Code. He confessed to committing the alleged offense and gave a statement.

A team of psychiatric experts was appointed for the proceedings. The specialists diagnosed the accused with alcohol dependence, but concluded that at the time of the offense he retained the ability to recognize its significance and to control his conduct. This means that, according to the experts’ opinion, he was legally sane.

Investigators also point out that this was not the first case involving violence against the victim. In 2018, the man was validly convicted of abusing his mother. At that time, the court sentenced him to one year and six months’ imprisonment.

The accused is currently being held in pretrial detention, where he is awaiting the start of the trial before the District Court in Jelenia Góra. The court will decide whether he is guilty and what sentence to impose.
