As with the first batch of the new equipment received a month ago, over the next several days soldiers of the 2nd Self-Propelled Artillery Squadron and representatives of the Works will carry out the formal handover and acceptance procedures. At the end of the week, on the eve of the Rocket and Artillery Forces Day celebrations, the new artillery equipment will be formally accepted. In addition to the next eight KRAB self-propelled howitzers, the artillerymen will also receive WD and WDSz command vehicles, ammunition carriers and a WRUE technical vehicle.
“For us artillerymen, this is technological progress, above all in terms of the new equipment’s combat capabilities. The effective range of fire is increasing, as is mobility, and above all the autonomy of the guns, because I would like to emphasize that each gun is ready to conduct autonomous fire against detected targets,” says the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Colonel Marek Wasielewski. He adds that this is technologically advanced equipment, and for the soldiers to operate it properly, they underwent specialist training at Huta Stalowa Wola.
Next month, training on the new equipment will begin at the training facilities of the 23rd Artillery Regiment. In accordance with the training plan, in the middle of next year the crews will conduct their first live-fire combat training using live ammunition. Ultimately, the self-propelled artillery squadron will be armed with 24 KRAB self-propelled howitzers and 18 command and logistics vehicles.
