Every winter, the emergency services record deaths caused by hypothermia. Bearing in mind the approaching winter season, police officers from Bolesławiec have begun activities as part of the operation known as “WINTER 2020/2021”. The aim of the operation is to counter threats to the lives and health of homeless and helpless people. The officers’ preventive activities are intended to limit tragic incidents and provide assistance to as many people in need as possible.
As part of the operation, uniformed officers regularly check places where homeless people may stay. Police officers pay attention to people under the influence of alcohol in circumstances threatening their lives. In implementing the operation’s objectives, the officers, as in previous years, cooperate with other services and institutions.
All activities will be assistance-oriented; therefore, while performing their official duties, police officers will provide people in need with information and all possible help in reaching facilities assisting homeless people and others requiring care. During this winter season, due to the pandemic and sanitary restrictions, the rules for using night shelters have changed.
Police officers appeal to residents of Bolesławiec County to pass on information to the services about people in need whose lives or health may be at risk because of low temperatures.
Let us remember that someone’s life may depend on our involvement and assistance. Sometimes even one phone call is enough.
