On November 12, at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, the District Court there ordered the temporary detention of Mateusz Ł., the perpetrator of an attempted murder of several people that took place in Jelenia Góra.

On the night of October 30–31, 2020, in an allotment garden area in Jelenia Góra, 35-year-old Mateusz Ł. set fire to one of the garden houses, where a man was present. The perpetrator also tried to prevent the victim from escaping by throwing stones at him and threatening to use a metal pipe he was holding. The man managed to escape from the burning building.

Another crime took place on the night of November 10–11, also in Jelenia Góra. Ł. poured gasoline over the entrance door to an apartment and then set it on fire; three people, including a child, were inside. Fortunately, the victims managed to extinguish the flames.

The perpetrator was detained and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, where he was charged with two counts of attempted murder. Prosecutor’s Office:

It was also established that Mateusz Ł. had previously threatened the victims with killing them, and he was therefore additionally charged with criminal threats.

The suspect was placed in temporary detention for three months. Even more frighteningly, the victims are relatives of the perpetrator. Ł. claimed that his actions were a reaction to their alleged “inappropriate behavior toward him.”

The detainee had previously been convicted by the courts numerous times, mainly for offenses against property and abuse of a close person. He now faces a sentence of at least 12 years in prison, a 25-year prison term, or even life imprisonment.
