Justyna Wydrzyńska (Women Online – abortion in Polish) is a member of the Aborcyjny Dream Team Initiative (ADT), which was established in 2016. ADT is an informal initiative aimed at destigmatizing abortion.
We also encourage you to read a reliable study on the number of abortions in Poland: The abortion compromise in figures.
Justyna Wydrzyńska:
We may have different experiences and emotions, and everything we feel is normal because it is ours – that is why “Abortion Is OK”.
We share our experiences and stories, talk about them, and are a community.
The experience of abortion is a mix of emotions. We worry not only about our physical safety, but also about our emotions, while at the same time believing that what we are doing is right for us, for our lives, for who we are, and for our experiences.
On the one hand, we feel something different, but we have been taught that abortion is something bad.
In most cases, the first feeling women experience is relief.
Abortion is stigmatized, as are the people who have abortions. This is an attempt to divide people into better and worse.
In most cases, abortions are obtained by women who already have children.
My favorite protest slogan is: I think, I feel, I decide.
One of the biggest myths about abortion is that you can no longer have children after an abortion.
Infertility is caused by complications after an abortion, not by abortion itself.
In 2013, CBOS reported that one in three women had had contact with abortion.
In our view, the so-called abortion compromise is not a compromise but a disgrace.
We do not need laws regulating access to abortion.
Let us trust women and treat them as subjects, not objects.
I invite people who need information about abortion to contact the Aborcyjny Dream Team.
The women of ADT talk about abortion normally, without taboo, drama, distortions or fear; they discuss medication abortion and other methods of terminating pregnancy. ADT’s slogan is “You are not alone”, which also applies to abortion coming out, about which they write:
We are coming out of hiding, also for all those who think they are alone in this experience. You are not! There are millions of us! Abortion is an everyday and common experience, only highly stigmatized. Together we can change this through care, understanding and radical empathy.
