On Monday, November 9, another conference in the Principals’ Forum series was held in the conference room of the District Office in Bolesławiec. The meeting was devoted to the regulation of the Minister of National Education on pedagogical supervision. Joanna Berdzik, Joanna Berdzik, the coordinator of the Ministry of National Education’s project “Programme to strengthen the effectiveness of the pedagogical supervision system and assess the quality of school work – stage II,” discussed the changes introduced by this legal act.
Among the invited guests were representatives of the Education Superintendent’s Office in Wrocław, the Jelenia Góra branch of the Education Superintendent’s Office, representatives of governing bodies, members of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee of the Bolesławiec County Council, and directors of educational institutions.
“The need for change in pedagogical supervision has been discussed for a long time. In May 2008, we sent organisations and institutions a question about the changes they considered necessary in pedagogical supervision,” Joanna Berdzik noted. “All the organisations pointed to the need to introduce them.”
The regulation entered into force on November 9. Here are some of its provisions:
- evaluations will be conducted by at least two people, “not, Berdzik explained, so that the school can be checked much more thoroughly, but because a decision on such important matters should not be made by one person alone”
- the school must have a work concept
- for the purposes of evaluation, inspection and support, the school or institution’s principal shall, in particular, observe classes conducted by teachers
- the school or institution’s principal must prepare a supervision plan.
Following Joanna Berdzik’s presentation, the discussion was opened by Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Bolesławiec County Board. The following speakers then took the floor: Robert Furman, principal of the School Complex in Gromadka; Ewa Miłuch-Szewczyk, a consultant at the Educational Training Academy in Jelenia Góra; Barbara Kuciel, principal of Municipal Kindergarten No. 4 in Bolesławiec; Alicja Krzyszczak, head of the Education, Culture, Physical Culture and Sport Department of the District Office; and Małgorzata Henglewska, director of the Department of Supervision of Upper-Secondary and Continuing Education at the Education Superintendent’s Office in Wrocław.
The conference was organised by the District Centre for Education and Staff Training in Bolesławiec.
