Problems are arising with the availability of various materials. Recently, there has been a shortage of Eppendorf tubes—plastic tubes three centimeters high. A lack of such containers could halt the work of a laboratory worth millions of zlotys.
– The value of one unit is several dozen groszy. This plastic is very specific: it must be free of RNA and DNA and is produced under highly specific conditions. Such products are not manufactured in Poland; everything is imported. If the supply chain is disrupted, we have a problem. That is why we are building up supplies to secure 1,000 tests a day for six months. One test requires one piece of plastic. We currently perform more than 600 tests a day. At present, we have enough stock for one month, but we already have assurances that more tubes will be available – explains Kamil Barczyk, director of the hospital in Bolesławiec.
