– Containers with an unknown chemical substance were found during archaeological work on the grounds of the Border Guard Specialist Training Centre in Lubań. We were at the site and confirmed the initial suspicions that they may contain chemical substances dating from the First or Second World War – says Radosław Mazur, commander of the bomb-disposal patrol of the 23rd Artillery Regiment from Bolesławiec.
– The containers are being inspected, examined and then secured. We will also search the area to check whether there are more containers here than the 10 found so far – Radosław Mazur adds. – The operation will continue depending on what we find in the ground. It is possible that it will have to last another day or two – the bomb-disposal specialist says.
There has always been a military unit at the site where the containers were found, both before and during the war. For this reason, the bomb-disposal specialists suspect that these are training military agents used to simulate the contamination of an area.
