They met more than a dozen years ago at the Mały Bolesławiec Song and Dance Ensemble. Later, they danced together in ZPiT Bolesławiec. Now they are adults. They have their own lives and their own affairs. They work, study and pursue doctorates. Despite this, folk dancing is still very important to them.

“Two years ago, our friend was getting married. We wanted to surprise her and dance at her wedding,” says Anna Alicja Serkies, a dance instructor and MDK teacher. “It turned out fantastically. The bride’s friends thought she had invited a professional dance group to the wedding reception.”

The dancers decided to return to their former passion. “Some time ago, someone suggested: maybe we should start training more often?” says Anna. “Some have been dancing for 20 years. It is difficult to break old habits,” she says with a smile.

They train once a week at the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury in Bolesławiec. Marek Łętowski, the head of the institution, made a room available to them. The weekly training sessions are not only great fun, but also an excellent opportunity to meet friends and reminisce about the old days.

This does not mean, however, that Anna Alicja Serkies has no hopes for the group. “I would like them to perform and have the opportunity to showcase their skills,” she emphasizes. “They are simply excellent dancers. It would be a shame to let that go to waste.”

When asked whether she could imagine life without dance, she replies: “No. It is my hobby and it will always accompany me. I fell in love with dance in childhood. The classes were wonderful; they allowed me to cut myself off from the whole world and find a safe haven. And that remains the case today.”
