Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters:
Drivers who get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol are convinced that alcohol does not affect their concentration, reaction speed, or assessment of distances and speeds on the road. They often assume that home is only a few metres or kilometres away and that surely nothing will happen.
It turns out, however, that life writes different scenarios and that in an instant we can lose everything most precious to us—our own health or life, as well as that of the passengers we transport.
Residents of Legnica County learned last weekend how driving a car while intoxicated and recklessly can result in bodily injury. “On Friday night, a few minutes after midnight, in Grzymalin, the driver of an Audi A6, most likely as a result of excessive speed, lost control of the vehicle, veered onto the shoulder and hit a tree. The car then came to a stop on its roof in a roadside ditch,” reports Sub-Inspector Jagoda Ekiert from the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. “As a result of the incident, three men with multiple bodily injuries were taken to hospital.”
It turned out that two of them, including the driver, were drunk; they had more than 1.5 parts per mille of alcohol in their breath. Both were placed in police custody. Police: “The passenger who was travelling with them in the back seat without wearing a seat belt sustained the most serious bodily injuries and remained in hospital.”
Police officers from Chojnów are handling the case.
