“Today’s assembly commemorates and honors the service of reserve soldiers in the defense of the country. It is an expression of respect for reserve soldiers who report for duty whenever called upon to stand guard over the security of the state,” 23rd Artillery Regiment commander Col. Marek Wasielewski told those gathered. In his speech, he thanked the reserve soldiers for their commitment and professional approach to carrying out the tasks assigned during military exercises.
The date of the celebration refers to the victorious battle fought by knights and the common levy against the forces of the Teutonic Order near Koronowo on October 10, 1410. This battle is an example of one of the fastest military mobilizations in medieval Europe. Throughout the centuries, reserve soldiers fighting for Poland repeatedly set an example of patriotic conduct, loyalty to their military oath and attachment to the traditions of Polish arms.
The ceremonial assembly provided an opportunity to present reserve soldiers with appointments to their next higher military rank, as well as awards for the very good performance of tasks carried out during short- and long-term military exercises in the 23rd Artillery Regiment.
