The Wrocław Equality March has been held under the honorary patronage of the mayor of Wrocław for two years Jacek Sutryk. On his behalf, Bartłomiej Ciążyński, the Mayor of Wrocław’s adviser for Tolerance and Counteracting Xenophobia, spoke at the March.
“There is nothing radical about people loving each other and wanting to legalize that love in the fight for equal rights. There is nothing radical about dignity for everyone. I will tell you what is radical. Radical is the beating, incitement and total war that those in power have declared against the LGBT community! Therefore, I would like to appeal to you: decency and the defense of democracy require standing with those who are being harmed and fighting the disgrace that is happening in Poland,” said Bartłomiej Ciążyński, deputy chairman of the City Council and head of SLD Wrocław.
Speeches and demands of the 12th Equality March in Wrocław
We lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender and non-binary people say clearly: we are at home here, Poland is our home, and we create it with the people we love.
Poland is our home, where we want to live safely. Poland is our home, to which we have a right!
We have the right to be polite and impolite, cheeky and assertive; we have the right to be human. That is why today we are beginning the Equality March for Poland. The time has come to truly change the face of the earth, this earth. We demand:
- An immediate end to the campaign of hatred and disinformation directed at LGBT+ people living in Poland.
- Amending Article 119 of the Criminal Code and adding homophobia, transphobia and hate speech as grounds for discrimination
- An apology from the hierarchs of the Catholic Church for disseminating harmful, anti-scientific catechesis that conflicts with the provisions of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- Equality in the right to happiness, the right to self-determination, the right to marry and to start families
- Simplifying the legal and medical procedures involved in gender-affirming processes for our transgender brothers and sisters
- Holding accountable and punishing those responsible for police brutality.
- We demand a Poland that is equal for every person who was born here, lives here and will be born here.
