On Wednesday, September 23, a press conference attended by local government authorities was held on the premises of the Bolesławiec Health Care Complex. The meeting concerned progress on the construction of a new hospital for coronavirus patients.
Kamil Barczyk, director of the county hospital in Bolesławiec:
An exceptional day, not only for the hospital, but for our entire local community, the region, the Jelenia Góra subregion and the Legnica subregion. An exceptional time because of the raging pandemic we have been struggling with since the beginning of March. Thanks to the support of local government authorities and the marshal, it is possible to quickly carry out investment tasks for patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This is an exceptional and highly innovative investment on a Polish scale.
What will the local community gain?
Modules for 65 coronavirus patients. The director:
We are increasing the number of places available in Lower Silesia for infected patients. There are already very few such places. That is why it is so important for this investment to be completed quickly.
We are also improving the quality of treatment. Thanks to this investment, the hospital will be able to admit uninfected patients.
Bolesławiec County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak:
What happened in Poland, Europe and around the world in March caused our hospital to take on an additional role and become a frontline hospital in the fight against COVID. Since March, we have been thoroughly reconstructing and equipping the hospital. None of this would have been possible without funds from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, the state budget and the municipalities of Bolesławiec County. All these goals were also achieved thanks to the involvement of the Bolesławiec County budget itself.
The decision to build another hospital building was made about one and a half to two months ago. The hospital director selected the technology in which the building would be constructed. Thanks to this choice, I hope that by the end of October the new hospital building will be fully ready.
Marshal Cezary Przybylski:
I wanted to congratulate you on the idea, because it really is innovative. The fact that this ward will be able to admit patients by the end of October is very good news not only for the residents of Bolesławiec County, but also for the people of Lower Silesia. All experts indicate that a new wave of the epidemic will occur, so facilities for treating COVID patients are certainly necessary.
Deputy Marshal Marcin Krzyżanowski:
We already have several months of experience in fighting coronavirus. From the very beginning, we worked side by side with the Bolesławiec hospital and local government authorities. We did not deliberate for long about whether to support this investment.
First, we need these places, and it is good that they will be created here. Second, we must not forget about other diseases, because they existed, exist and will continue to exist.
Mayor of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman:
Let me remind you that several months ago we had personnel changes at the hospital, which led to organizational changes and an investment offensive. Today it is clear that these were good decisions.
He added:
This investment drive is greater than all the investments carried out over the past ten years. It is a great joy for me, because Bolesławiec deserves a good hospital.
