A man who was picking mushrooms in a forest near Wilków (Złotoryja municipality) last weekend came across a projectile, probably dating from World War II. The area was secured by police officers from Złotoryja. On September 8, soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol arrived at the site and detonated the projectile.
Uniformed services:
We would like to remind you that our forests and soil conceal many remnants of the past. Because of corrosion, such projectiles may explode following a slight shock or even when touched.
We are now urging particular caution, as many mushroom-picking enthusiasts are visiting forests and the weather is favorable for fieldwork.
What should you do if you find unexploded ordnance?
Police:
The site of the find should be clearly marked, secured against access by third parties, and the information should be immediately reported to the appropriate services: a bomb disposal patrol or the police.
