In a house in Kraśnik Dolny (Bolesławiec municipality), part of the roof collapsed at the end of April. On 7 May, firefighters intervened at the site again and once more secured the building’s roof.

On the other side of the building, fortunately, Ms Monika lived with her husband. The man is recovering from an accident and uses a wheelchair. Fortunately, after the incident this spring, the couple had somewhere to go—they moved to an apartment in the same village. (Ms Monika inherited it.)

The problem is that the Reader’s uncle is staying in the aforementioned building, which could collapse at any moment. To make matters worse, another section of the building’s roof collapsed on 2 September.

The uncle—despite his family’s requests, including those from his brother—does not want to “move out.” Ms Monika fears that a tragedy may occur. That is why she would like to demolish the building at risk of collapse. However, she has no funds for this, as she lives solely on a caregiver’s allowance. (She gave up work to care for her disabled husband.)

The village community and the Bolesławiec municipality helped the couple when they moved to their new apartment, including by providing a wheelchair ramp. The person reporting the matter emphasizes that she does not want to return to that house, but also does not want anyone to be harmed on the property.

On behalf of the Reader, we appeal to construction companies to estimate the demolition costs. If any company would be willing to undertake this task, taking into account Ms Monika’s situation, please contact us via our contact form.

Andrzej Dutkowski, head of the Bolesławiec municipality

Neither the Bolesławiec municipality nor the Municipal Social Welfare Centre received an application for assistance for Ms Monika. Nevertheless, several minutes after the roof collapsed, the Deputy Head of the Municipality, Roman Jaworski, and Municipal Councillor Anetta Kamińska arrived at the site; she called the fire service. Roman Jaworski offered the family temporary accommodation, but the affected people did not accept this solution.

As a result, financial assistance was provided to adapt the apartment where Ms Monika and her husband currently live. Financial support was provided not only by the municipality through the Municipal Social Welfare Centre, but also—and this is worth emphasizing—by the residents of Kraśnik Dolny. The Village Council and the Rural Housewives’ Circle donated funds, and additional non-financial assistance was provided. The firefighters who secured the building’s roof twice also acted in cooperation with the municipal authorities.

Only the District Building Control Inspector may decide whether to issue an order to vacate the building and demolish it.
