District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra:
On 14 August 2020, the perpetrators induced a seventy-year-old woman to dispose disadvantageously of her own property in the form of money totalling PLN 270,400. First, they called her pretending to be officers of the Central Police Investigation Bureau, and then posing as a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec. They told her that her savings held in the bank were at risk. Following the calls, the victim transferred PLN 250,000 to a bank account indicated by the criminals and handed them PLN 20,400 in cash.
Two people were arrested: Izabela K., a 23-year-old resident of Legnica, and Paweł G., a 40-year-old resident of Mława. Investigators:
They also managed to recover more than PLN 250,000 paid out by the victim.
The detainees confessed. Paweł G. is a repeat offender and had previously been convicted of robbery. K. faces a sentence of one to as many as ten years in prison, while G. could receive up to 15 years behind bars.
At the prosecutor’s request, the District Court in Bolesławiec remanded both suspects in custody for three months. Actions aimed at identifying the remaining perpetrators are ongoing.
