As a result of procedural activities, including an autopsy of human fetal remains following a report that a pregnant woman subjected to violence had suffered a miscarriage, Sylwester C. was detained. The prosecutor charged him with physically and psychologically abusing his cohabiting partner, Monika W., between July 2018 and 17 August 2020 in Lwówek Śląski, Granice and the territory of the Netherlands. While under the influence of alcohol, he started domestic arguments during which he insulted and humiliated the victim, threatened to kill her and injure her, and constantly controlled her. He also directed insults at her by telephone, kicked and hit her all over her body and face, pulled her hair, strangled her and kicked her in the stomach, including during the period when she was pregnant. This involved particular cruelty and caused bodily injuries resulting in an impairment of health and disruption of the functions of a bodily organ lasting no longer than seven days. C. faces a sentence of between one and ten years in prison. The suspect did not admit to the charges. The Lwówek court remanded him in custody for three months.
