Every eighth-grade student took exams in three subjects:

  • Polish
  • mathematics
  • a modern foreign language (in Bolesławiec municipality, English or German).

Barbara Majecka from Bolesławiec Municipality Office:

The results of this year's exam show that students performed well on the Polish-language task testing their ability to understand a cultural text and use the information it contained. They found the language-education task testing their knowledge of Polish grammar difficult.

For the Polish-language tasks, eighth-grade students in Bolesławiec municipality achieved an average of 64.81 points out of the possible score, compared with an average of 58.83 in Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The highest average Polish-language scores were achieved by: Primary School in Brzeźnik – 70.9 points, Primary School in Kruszyn – 69 points, and Primary School in Ocice – 66 points.

What about mathematics?

B. Majecka:

In mathematics, students demonstrated the ability to read, interpret and process data presented in text and diagrams, as well as use it in a practical situation; open-ended problems proved challenging for them.

The average mathematics score for students in Bolesławiec municipality was 47.26 points, compared with the voivodeship average of 44.51. The highest average mathematics scores were achieved by students at Primary School in Bożejowice – 56.15 points and Primary School in Brzeźnik – 55.3 points. The results of students from the schools in Kruszyn and Ocice, whose average score was 50 points, also deserve recognition.

What about the languages?

The head of municipal education adds:

In the English exam, eighth-grade students performed best on open-ended tasks testing their ability to find specific information in a written text. For students who took the German exam, closed tasks testing their knowledge of language functions proved easiest. In both English and German, the open-ended task testing knowledge of language means proved difficult for the students.

The average English score achieved in Bolesławiec municipality was 58.31 (the average score in Lower Silesian Voivodeship was 54.96 points). The three best average scores were: 81 points at Primary School in Dąbrowa Bolesławiecka, 66 points at Primary School in Kruszyn, and 65 points at Primary School in Brzeźnik. Eighth-grade students achieved somewhat lower results in German: the municipal average was 49.1 (the average in Lower Silesian Voivodeship was 44.07 points). The schools with the best results were: Primary School in Brzeźnik – 69.9 points, Primary School in Żeliszów – 56.33 points, and Primary School in Trzebień – 52 points.

How did the municipality's eighth-grade students perform?

The average score across all examination subjects at primary schools in Bolesławiec municipality – 55.18 points – was much higher than the average score in Lower Silesian Voivodeship: 50.59 points. A decisive majority of schools (7 out of 8) achieved scores above the Lower Silesian Voivodeship average in all examination subjects.

Barbara Majecka:

This year, the result of the students at Primary School in Brzeźnik – 65.28 points – deserves special recognition; in 2019, students from this school also achieved the best result in Bolesławiec municipality. Attention should also be drawn to the results of students from the schools in Dąbrowa Bolesławiecka – 59.5 points – and Kruszyn – 58 points.

Teachers employed at schools in Bolesławiec municipality deserve special praise for preparing students so well for the exam despite the difficulties they encountered in connection with remote learning introduced on 15 March. I would also like to thank the parents, who often supported the schools in their efforts during this difficult period.

I also congratulate the students on achieving such good results. At the same time, I want to emphasize that this is the first highly important exam in a young person's life, because the result largely determines whether they will be able to continue their education at the secondary school of their choice.
