The crime took place on 9 July in Uniegoszcz, in Lubań County. The 71-year-old man, who had been abusing his family for several years, attempted to murder his adult son.
District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra:
He intended to do so by setting him on fire. To this end, he doused him with a flammable substance and also poured it on the staircase, vestibule and parts of the rooms inside the building where they all lived together.
Investigators add:
The victim defended himself, thereby preventing a tragedy. Through his actions, Jan K. endangered not only his son but also the other people on the property.
The attacker was arrested by police and taken to the Lubań prosecutor’s office. There, he was charged with abusing his family, making criminal threats and attempting to murder his son, as well as exposing the other family members to an immediate risk of loss of life or serious harm to their health.
K. pleaded not guilty. On 10 July, at the request of the district prosecutor in Lubań, the court ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. The man now faces up to life imprisonment.
