32-year-old man collapses at police station and dies in hospital. Paramedics had previously allowed him to be questioned

The police reported the case on their website. Statement by Superintendent Kamila Rynkiewicz of the Press Team of the KWP in Wrocław:

Today, at around 7 a.m., officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received a report concerning a man behaving strangely who was outside one of the properties in the Gromadka municipality. The report stated that, for an extended period, he had been moving from place to place without any apparent reason. The information provided indicated that his behaviour showed symptoms that could suggest he was under the influence of a narcotic substance.

In connection with the discovery at the scene of a substance of unknown origin in the man’s possession, probably psychoactive, as well as his confirmed irrational behaviour and the possibility that he had taken intoxicants, the officers summoned an emergency medical team through the unit’s duty officer. The paramedics who arrived at the scene found no contraindications to continuing the procedures related to the arrest of the 32-year-old. As a detained person, the man was not subjected to any direct coercive measures apart from being handcuffed for his own safety and that of the officers. He was then taken to the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. At one point, while he was being escorted to the police forensic technician to carry out procedures related to weighing and testing the secured substance, the 32-year-old collapsed and stopped breathing. The officers immediately summoned an emergency medical team, beginning resuscitation efforts, which they continued until the medics arrived. During the paramedics’ intervention, the man’s vital signs returned. He was then transported to hospital, where—as police officers learned—the man died.

It also follows from the circumstances surrounding the 32-year-old’s arrest that, after testing, the substance found in his possession turned out to be methamphetamine, in an amount sufficient to produce several dozen doses. The officers and the Bolesławiec prosecutor’s office, which the police informed about the incident involving the death of the man who was found with narcotics and who—as preliminary findings indicate—was under their influence, are currently carrying out investigative procedures in the case. Among other things, investigators will examine the source of the secured drugs.
