A reader called us to ask whether the traditional “Mr Mayor Invites You” gala would take place this year. During this ceremony, the most talented students from schools in the Gmina Miejska Bolesławiec are awarded, among other things, prizes with a financial value.
As Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Urząd Miasta Bolesławiec, informed us, the gala will definitely take place, but probably not until the beginning of September this year. (Why? The results of the eighth-grader examination will be known at the end of July.)
The spokesperson reassures us: the awards replacing scholarships will definitely be paid out. Funds for this purpose have been secured in the City’s budget.
There will be a problem with the Golden Hundred of Bolesławiec Talents. As we reported, among other times, last year:
Traditionally, students who achieved success in academic competitions and sports events received commemorative pens and “TALENT OF THE YEAR 2019” certificates. [...] The students’ achievements were considered in three categories:
- subject-related achievements
- artistic and thematic achievements
- sports achievements.
The problem is that most competitions of this type either did not take place or were interrupted because of the coronavirus epidemic.
We will return to this topic.
