Officers from the Police Station in Ścinawa, while patrolling the municipality, spotted in one of the localities a 22-year-old resident of Lubin County who was well known to them. The man was driving a Mercedes passenger car. – When the officers attempted to stop the 22-year-old, he ignored the officers’ signals and began to flee – says asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.
She adds:
The officers began pursuing the driver. At one point, the man drove onto nearby fields and meadows, continuing his escape. When the officers attempted to block the exit from the dirt road, the driver struck the front of the police car with his vehicle, drove around the officers and began fleeing again, ignoring the order to stop.
The officers prevented the 22-year-old from reaching a public road. At one point, the man lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete railway overpass.
He also attempted to flee on foot. However, he was quickly detained and subdued.
Why did he flee?
As it turned out, the Mercedes driver had two reasons for making his desperate escape. The 22-year-old did not have a driving licence and, in addition, had more than one per mille of alcohol in his system.
Spokeswoman:
The man was taken to a police cell. When he sobered up, he was charged. He will now stand trial for driving while intoxicated and failing to stop for a traffic check despite the officers issuing light and sound signals ordering him to stop.
The 22-year-old will also be held responsible for forcing officers to abandon a legal action—in this case, a traffic check and detention—by striking the front of a marked police car with his vehicle.
The young man could face a sentence of between three months and as much as five years in prison.
