Three fraud attempts took place in Bolesławiec on Children’s Day. “The method was the same each time. Someone called a landline phone, claiming to be a courier with a parcel from a bank,” reports asp. szt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. “Then a man claiming to be a CBA officer called, saying that he was investigating the courier and needed cooperation to arrest the criminal.”

The spokesperson adds:

Fortunately, the potential victims showed great vigilance and prudence. They did not let the fraudsters take advantage of them and notified the Police about what had happened.

How can you avoid being defrauded?

  • A police officer will never call to inform you about an operation in progress
  • the police will never ask you to give money to someone, transfer it to an account or leave it somewhere
  • the police will never order you to pay money as a so-called bail
  • do not let strangers into your home; preferably, do not open the door at all in such cases
  • talk to employees at the banks where you withdraw money about, for example, a suspicious phone call you received; share every piece of information that raises doubts about its credibility—the bank employees will certainly advise you properly
  • banks never send their couriers to collect money from us
  • remember that if you want to verify the credibility of someone calling you and claiming, for example, to be a police officer, first hang up and only then dial the emergency number 112—only a call made this way is correct
  • if you have any doubts about the details of someone calling you or claiming to work for an institution, verify them. Report such situations to the police and consult your family
  • remember not to be persuaded to leave your money in an isolated place, throw it out of a window or leave it where the fraudster indicates
  • do not share codes, passwords or access details to your bank accounts with people you do not trust
  • talk to one another about such matters—whether with family or friends—and warn one another
  • following these few rules can save our often long-accumulated life savings.
