On May 12 in the afternoon, a former partner shot a 35-year-old woman in an apartment building on Wielka Niedźwiedzicy Street in Legnica. The bullet struck her head. The seriously injured woman was taken to a hospital in Legnica. Unfortunately, the woman who had been shot died there on May 19.
The prosecutor's office is carrying out activities related to the autopsy of the woman at the forensic medicine institute in Wrocław. This will make it possible to establish the direct cause of the woman's death. Until now, the perpetrator had been charged with attempted murder. The charge has now been changed to murder. “This is an offense punishable by between 8 years' imprisonment and life imprisonment, inclusive,” says Radosław Wrębiak, a prosecutor at the District Prosecutor's Office in Legnica.
The man shot at the woman with a black-powder Colt-type pistol, which he bought online. It is a replica of a weapon from 1847. One bullet struck the woman in the head; the second shot missed. The prosecutor's office established that the perpetrator and the victim knew each other. They had previously been a couple.
After the breakup, the 36-year-old man could not come to terms with it. The victim notified the police about the man's criminal threats against her. Whether the police fulfilled all their duties related to the threats will be examined in separate proceedings.
