The incident occurred on Thursday, 21 May.

“The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received a report of a burglary at one of the apartments in Bolesławiec and the theft of various household items. An investigative team headed by a forensic technician arrived at the scene, conducted an examination and secured evidence,” says Staff Sergeant Marta Kubiak of the Bolesławiec police. “During these activities, the technician noticed through the apartment window that an unknown man was damaging the official vehicle in which a police officer had arrived at the scene. The officers ran out of the apartment and immediately subdued the man. The situation was dangerous because the aggressor was holding a dangerous object—a pocketknife.

It turned out that the 33-year-old man with the pocketknife was also… the perpetrator of the burglary the police officers had been investigating. Loot from the robbed apartment was found in the attacker’s basement. The recovered property was handed over to its owner.

What is more, the 33-year-old was drunk at the time of his arrest. He spent the night in a police cell. He will now face charges of burglary and damaging a police car. He could receive a sentence of between one and as many as ten years in prison. “Naturally, he will also face a substantial fine,” adds Staff Sergeant M. Kubiak.
