– Criminal Division officers of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, who deal with economic crime on a daily basis, established that electricity was being illegally connected in two residential locations in the city, bypassing the meter – says Staff Sergeant Marta Kubiak, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. – Immediate action taken together with representatives of the energy company confirmed the situation. The illegal electrical installation was dismantled, and criminal proceedings were initiated against the perpetrators.
One of the suspects, a 64-year-old man, told the officers that he had been using the illegally obtained electricity for approximately six months. The electricity thieves will now have to pay several thousand zlotys.

Electricity theft is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison. It is also worth mentioning that illegal connections pose a real threat to the life and health of people living in a given building.
Any tampering involves damage to the electrical installation, which may result in a fire or electric shock.
