In the newly announced tenders, Koleje Dolnośląskie plans to purchase two three-car vehicles with dual-system electric-diesel (hybrid, HZT) propulsion and two two-car diesel-powered trainsets. Both tenders include an option to expand the order in the future by six additional trains.
“We decided to change the formula and scope of the original tender so that we could obtain new trains for the company as quickly as possible—trains that we will be able to operate efficiently and flexibly as part of the project,” said Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie. “We intend to continue investing in rolling stock in the future, which is why we decided to retain purchase options in the new proceedings for the delivery of additional trainsets.”
The company is waiting for manufacturers’ bids until June 5, 2020. They will have 18 months from the signing of the contract to deliver the rolling stock. Price will be the only criterion determining the selection.
Cancelled tender
In April, Koleje Dolnośląskie decided to cancel the proceeding for the purchase of hybrid rolling stock. The bid submitted by the sole bidder, Newag of Nowy Sącz, exceeded the planned budget by more than 50 million złoty. Under the original version of the tender, announced in February, the company planned to purchase six three-car hybrid trainsets.
Bids under consideration
The company is still reviewing bids in the tender for the purchase of five five-car electric multiple units, which was also announced in February 2020. PESA of Bydgoszcz and Newag are interested in delivering them, and their bids are currently being considered.
The tender also includes an option for the delivery of an additional twenty electric trainsets. Koleje Dolnośląskie must make a decision regarding this tender by June 22 of this year.
