A reader wrote to us about the trees by the old Catholic cemetery on Lubańska Street in Bolesławiec:
The felling of 40 trees on the slope next to the cemetery—Lubańska Street—is planned. It is the nesting season and the only shade available to passers-by in summer.
We asked the city services about the matter and were referred to the County. The county services, in turn, told us that it was all at the request of the city services, namely MZGM.
Why are the trees supposed to be cut down?
As we managed to establish, this is connected with the renovation of the retaining wall of the cemetery mentioned above.
More about the necropolis
The Old Catholic Cemetery on Lubańska Street was established at the beginning of the 20th century. Its small size indicates that there were not many Catholic worshippers. Old German graves have been preserved there, the oldest dating from 1918. After the war, it served the Polish community until the mid-1950s. Soldiers of the Second Polish Army and Italian prisoners of war were buried there.
