The tragedy occurred on Wednesday, April 29, at around 6:40 a.m. Volunteer firefighters from Gromadka:

We were dispatched to a road accident on the Pasternik–Chocianów road, involving a head-on collision between two passenger vehicles.

The firefighters add:

Unfortunately, one of the drivers did not survive.

“The police officers’ preliminary findings indicate that, for reasons not yet established, a 32-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County crossed into the opposite lane, where he collided head-on with a Seat driven by a 62-year-old resident of Polkowice County, who died at the scene,” says Staff Sergeant Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Polkowice.

He adds:

Police officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the incident. It is already known, however, that a sobriety test of the 32-year-old Citroën driver showed 0.75 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air. Under police supervision, the man was taken to hospital because of injuries sustained in the incident.

Our fellow resident could face between six months and as many as eight years in prison.
