On Thursday, September 3, a sports complex built as part of the “My Sports Field – Orlik 2012” programme opened at Municipal School Complex No. 2 in Bolesławiec. The ceremony was attended, among others, by Lower Silesian Voivode Rafał Jurkowlaniec, Chair of the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly Jerzy Pokój, Deputy Chair of the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly Jarosław Charłampowicz, county governor Cezary Przybylski, Chair of the County Council Karol Stasik, Deputy Chair of the County Council Jarosław Molenda, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, Deputy Mayors Wiesław Ogrodnik and Maciej Małkowski, Chair of the City Council Janina Piestrak–Babijczuk, Deputy Chair of the City Council Józef Pokładek, City Secretary Jerzy Zieliński, Bolesławiec Commune Head Kazimierz Gawron, District Prosecutor Adam Zieliński and Municipal Guard Commander Emil Zając.
The complex consists of a football pitch measuring 30 × 62 m and a multifunctional court measuring 19.1 × 32.1 m, where volleyball and basketball can be played. The entire facility has been lit so that the pitches can serve young athletes at least until 10 p.m. In addition, an animator will supervise young people in the afternoons.
The investment was worth more than PLN 1 million. One third of the cost of building the Orlik was covered by the state budget, and one third by the Self-Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The remainder was contributed by the Bolesławiec Municipal Commune.
“Children and young people finally have a place where they can practise sport safely,” stresses Voivode Rafał Jurkowlaniec. “These are no longer dirt lots or old-style asphalt pitches. Orliks are safe and modern, and that is exactly what both parents and young athletes expect.”
“Just look at the joy in the young people’s eyes,” says Jerzy Pokój. “Ah, if only I could return to my youth...” he adds. According to the Chair of the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly, the opening of an Orlik is a major event for every young person who plays sport. “I’ll give the example of my commune: Ścięgny near Karpacz. When an Orlik opened there, the children immediately disappeared from the streets. There is only one problem. They demand that they should also be allowed to play there after 10 p.m.,” the politician says with a smile.
During the ceremony, Mayor Piotr Roman addressed the young athletes: “This pitch is a test. Whether we build more will also depend on you, especially on how you treat it.”
After the speeches, students from MZS No. 2 presented their sporting skills. The official part of the ceremony concluded with shots at goal taken, among others, by the voivode and Mayor Roman.
The Bolesławiec facility is the 55th Orlik opened in Lower Silesia. By the end of the year, 105 complexes of this type are expected to be operating in our voivodeship.
