– We are systematically expanding the scope of assistance in the fight against the epidemic. The protection of the health and lives of Lower Silesia’s residents is the most important thing. This time, we are supporting units that are not directly subordinate to the regional government, namely county hospitals and Social Welfare Homes – Marshal Cezary Przybylski informs us.

The support comes mostly from European Union funds and will make it possible to purchase, among other things, personal protective equipment and equipment necessary to fight the epidemic. Each hospital will receive approximately PLN 140,000, which gives a total of PLN 3.5 million. In the case of Social Welfare Homes, the allocation is PLN 629 for each person under the care of a given facility, amounting to a total of PLN 3.9 million.

Last month, the regional government launched the Lower Silesian Health Protection Support Package, under which over PLN 42 million was allocated to “front-line” hospitals and emergency medical services, including the infectious diseases hospital in Bolesławiec, which received PLN 5.5 million. In addition, the hospital in Jelenia Góra received PLN 1.7 million in funding from the regional budget.

– During the epidemic, everyone’s attention is focused mainly on infectious diseases hospitals. This is, of course, extremely important. However, support is needed throughout the entire healthcare system. That is why we decided to support smaller, local hospitals operating in municipalities and counties. Support for Social Welfare Homes is in line with the recommendation of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy. Examples from Italy and Spain show that these are extremely vulnerable places, exposed to coronavirus outbreaks. They need to be protected, and we are joining efforts to support them – adds Deputy Marshal Marcin Krzyżanowski.
