A reader wrote to us via email:
We have been living in a tenement building on Wybickiego Street for four months. We are a family of five. My wife is from Tunisia. Three months ago, a family with two children moved into the ground floor. And that is when the problems began. Shouting, slamming doors, nighttime parties, intimidating my children, and racist insults directed at my wife and children.
I could not take it anymore, so I notified the police; the photo shows the result. A door handle smeared with feces, a damaged stairwell, and a note stuck to the door reading: “CLOSE THE DOOR, [OFFENSIVE RACIAL SLUR].”
We can no longer cope. The building owner terminated their apartment lease and was hit and verbally abused.
As we have established, the case is being handled by the Investigative Department of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. Investigative activities are underway regarding Article 257 of the Criminal Code:
Anyone who publicly insults a group of people or an individual on the grounds of their national, ethnic, racial or religious affiliation, or because they are non-religious, or who violates another person’s bodily integrity for such reasons, is subject to imprisonment for up to three years.
