In an email to the editorial office, a reader who introduced herself as an expectant mother, wrote:

I would like to raise the subject of the Bolesławiec maternity ward. We all know that a difficult period has arrived because of the virus and so on, but pregnancy and childbirth themselves cannot be put on hold once they have begun.

I am due to give birth next week. As recently as Wednesday, when I called the maternity ward in Bolesławiec, I was assured that the ward was operating normally – despite the conversion of the other wards into infectious-disease units.

Suddenly […] when someone asked about it, it turned out that only women with a confirmed infection and so on were being admitted. […]

I understand that we are in a state of emergency, that we have to get through it and not spread panic, but is it really so difficult to post a notice on the hospital’s website or at least send information to Bolesławiec news portals that the ward is temporarily not operating and that women should go elsewhere in the event of labour?

She added:

People, let’s keep each other informed and we’ll manage. I appreciate the work of the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff, and I admire you, but please also understand that for us mothers this is a very stressful situation too. We do not want to pester you unnecessarily, so please: make such information publicly available.

Indeed, at the Bolesławiec county hospital, which is being converted by decision of the authorities into a dedicated infectious-disease hospital, only the ICU and the Emergency Department are currently still operating. As a result, expectant mothers will have to give birth at other nearby hospitals.

(We reported on the matter last week in the article Changes at the Hospital. Emergency Department: ONLY Patients with a Sudden Health Emergency. Today, at the County’s request, we have moved the most important information for patients “to the top.)
