Ministry of the Interior and Administration:
This will ensure smoother traffic at border crossings and ease the congestion that formed after checks were reinstated at the internal border.
Specifically, the border with the Czech Republic will be possible to cross at three new crossings, while the border with Lithuania will be additionally crossable at the crossing in Ogrodniki.
Border with the Czech Republic
The Polish-Czech border will be possible to cross at three additional locations—in Gołkowice, Lubawka and Głuchołazy. Both passenger and freight traffic will be permitted at these road crossings.
The number of places where the border with the Czech Republic can be crossed will thus increase to 18.
Border with the Federal Republic of Germany
At the Polish-German border, the scope of traffic will be expanded at four road border crossings: Gubin–Guben, Słubice–Frankfurt an der Oder, Kostrzyn nad Odrą–Kietz and Zgorzelec. Until now, only pedestrian traffic was permitted there. Passenger and freight traffic, in addition to pedestrian traffic, will now be permitted at three crossings (Słubice–Frankfurt an der Oder, Kostrzyn nad Odrą–Kietz and Zgorzelec). At the Gubin–Guben crossing, pedestrian and passenger traffic will be permitted.
The changes introduced should improve traffic at the border with the Federal Republic of Germany and shorten the waiting time for crossing the border.
Border with the Republic of Lithuania
The Polish-Lithuanian border will additionally be possible to cross at the road crossing in Ogrodniki. Both passenger and freight traffic will be permitted there. The border with the Republic of Lithuania will thus be possible to cross at three locations in total. In addition to the crossing in Ogrodniki, these will remain Budzisko (a road border crossing for passenger and freight traffic) and Trakiszki (a railway border crossing for freight traffic).
Ministry officials add:
Furthermore, the regulation provides that, in particularly justified cases, the commander-in-chief of the Border Guard may consent to people and means of transport crossing the state border at locations other than those specified in the annex to the regulation.
