The Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products has issued a positive decision permitting the use of a drug called Arechin to treat infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It is a product of the Polish company Adamed.

Arechin contains chloroquine phosphate. This substance has so far been used in the treatment and prevention of malaria and rheumatoid arthritis. As wp.pl reports, Chinese scientists are said to have conducted clinical studies on its effectiveness during the epidemic caused by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus.

It turned out that chloroquine produces a positive therapeutic effect in cases of pneumonia associated with COVID-19. Patients experienced a faster reduction in fever and required less time to recover compared with groups treated with other therapies.
