The tragedy occurred on March 6 at one of the clinics in Legnica. The local prosecutor’s office was notified of the child’s death; a prosecutor immediately went to the scene.
Investigators’ preliminary findings indicate that the girl’s mother arrived at the blood-draw station that day with her 10-month-old daughter. “According to the mother’s account, when she was entering the clinic, the child began having difficulty breathing,” says prosecutor Lidia Tkaczyszyn, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.
The woman took the infant to the treatment room, where a paramedic was on duty. The paramedic immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A pediatrician and an ambulance were also called to the scene.
Unfortunately, the baby could not be saved.
The girl had a genetic disorder and had been treated at various medical facilities throughout the country. “The child’s body was secured for an autopsy, which will allow the cause of death to be established unequivocally,” L. Tkaczyszyn emphasizes.
The mother of the girl who died tragically did not raise any objections to the actions of the clinic staff. Nevertheless, a prosecutorial investigation into the matter is underway. Investigators are examining whether the people responsible for the infant’s care, including medical care, exposed her to danger and thereby unintentionally caused the girl’s death.
The version of events that appeared on Facebook (original spelling):
As a warning and to express my grief… I was with my child at the laboratory on Okrzei to have my daughter’s blood drawn. After me, a woman entered with an infant. As the mother was taking the baby out of the carrier, she—as did everyone in the waiting room—noticed that the child was choking. In a panic, we asked the staff for help—calling an ambulance, providing first aid, calling a doctor. Since it turned out that there were no doctors there, and the nurses’ actions were not helping, a man from the waiting room, together with the mother and a nurse, took the child next door to the MCZ clinic, where there are doctors, and the ambulance was supposed to come there. And then something happened that I still cannot comprehend in any way… The man holding the infant ran into the clinic and shouted, “DOCTOR!!!” and “THE CHILD IS CHOKING!!” He was directed to the doctor’s door. He went in, laid the child on the examination couch and asked the “doctor” (intentionally in quotation marks) for help, and an elegant woman (with a medical diploma, I assume) said to him, “Take the child and go to the treatment room.” He shouted, “THE CHILD IS CHOKING!!” and she again told him, “Go to the treatment room.” He replied, “I DON’T KNOW WHERE THE TREATMENT ROOM IS,” and the polite “woman” (doctor is not an appropriate term; I wonder whether ‘human being’ is appropriate) decided to show him the way”… She then left the office, locked it, and at an unhurried pace led the man with the CHOKING INFANT, WHOSE LIFE WAS FADING, WHO WAS FIGHTING TO CATCH HER BREATH, TURNING BLUE… to the treatment room. They arrived there; the man laid the child on the examination couch and stepped back, hoping that someone would finally provide help. Unfortunately, he had put her on the wrong one… He was asked to undress the child (never mind that she wasn’t his, apparently) and move her to the other couch. He stood there in shock, and the “woman with the diploma” announced, “You were supposed to undress the child!” After the nurse undressed her, the “woman” casually touched the infant’s chest and announced, “But she has no pulse, no pulse, no pulse.” She did not resuscitate her until the ambulance arrived. She provided no help whatsoever (unless leading someone to the treatment room is considered first aid)… THE CHILD—10-month-old Juleczka—IS DEAD [...] As if that were not enough, she said to the shocked, panicked and distraught mother, “But the child was ill, so you knew she would die” (the child had a genetic disease)… […].
