On 7 March, at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, the District Court in Zgorzelec remanded in custody a suspect in a murder committed a week earlier, as well as a man who helped him conceal traces of the crime.
On 1 March, the partially burned body of a man was found in a forest complex near Zgorzelec. “An examination conducted at the scene with the participation of the prosecutor and Police officers, as well as the subsequent autopsy, showed that the victim had been shot in the head,” says prosecutor Tomasz Czułowski, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. “The intensive investigative and procedural measures undertaken by the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Witnesses were questioned, local inspections and examinations were conducted, and other evidence was collected.”
What was established?
The crime was committed on the night of 29 February to 1 March 2020 in Zgorzelec. Dariusz O. fired a shot from a firearm in the direction of Grzegorz C.. He hit C. in the head.
Then, together with Oliwer K., he transported the victim’s body to a secluded place, where it was set on fire.

After being brought to the Prosecutor’s Office, Dariusz O. was charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of child sexual abuse material, after such material was found on his phone.
Oliwer K. was also arrested and charged with helping the perpetrator of the murder avoid responsibility for the crime, including by covering up traces, as well as desecrating a corpse.
Both suspects were remanded in custody for three months. (They are residents of Zgorzelec County, aged 34 and 21.) O. faces at least eight years in prison, 25 years’ imprisonment or even life imprisonment. K. could spend five years behind bars.
