On February 27, police will conduct nationwide “Speed” inspection and prevention activities. Komenda Główna Policji:
The primary aim of the operation will be to reduce the risk of accidents by enforcing compliance with the applicable speed limits among vehicle drivers. Nevertheless, police officers will pay attention to every behavior that violates the law.
Officers: “Speed is one of the key factors affecting the risk of road accidents and the scale of their consequences. As the deadliest cause of accidents, it threatens not only drivers and their passengers but also pedestrians. In cases involving pedestrian collisions, even a slight violation of the permitted speed limit reduces a person’s chances of survival. Even the safest car cannot guarantee the survival of the driver and passengers at high speeds.”
As part of the operation, officers will conduct speed measurements both statically and dynamically.
A special role will be played by police officers from the SPEED teams, whose main task is to counter dangerous behavior on the road, including speeding. While on duty, they will use the latest vehicles equipped with video recorders, as well as handheld speed meters with visualization.
KGP:
The planned operation is preventive in nature. However, drivers who fail to comply with speed limits, especially those who exceed them significantly, must expect legal consequences.
We appeal to drivers to comply with the permitted speed limits and slow down in places where regulations and common sense require particular caution. Such increased vigilance is necessary, among other places, near pedestrian crossings, bicycle crossings and intersections.
The officers add:
Remember! A safe speed is one adapted to the intensity of traffic, the applicable speed limits, weather conditions, road surface conditions and one’s own abilities.
