The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 11, at around 9:00 a.m. in the center of Bolesławiec. A woman approached a municipal police patrol and reported in horror that a man with an axe was walking near the arcades. She added that the attacker had threatened other women with the tool, and they had locked themselves in a nearby room containing an ATM out of fear.

The patrol immediately located the man and began chasing him, as the man—matching the woman’s description—started running toward Sierpnia ’80 Street when he saw the municipal police officers.
On the way, the suspect threw away a bag.
The officers apprehended the man. The bag abandoned by the attacker contained an axe and a knife. The attacker was handed over to the police, who are carrying out further activities in the case.

The 56-year-old attacker was taken to a regional psychiatric hospital for observation. The man will face charges for criminal threats and could spend up to two years behind bars.
