Officers from the Department for Combating Crimes Against Life and Health of the Municipal Police Headquarters, working operationally, identified the perpetrator of a robbery that took place last Friday in Legnica.
The man attacked an ill woman who moved around with the help of a so-called walker. The aggressor assumed that such an attack would not be difficult for him and that the woman would be unable to defend herself. “As established, the perpetrator, taking advantage of his physical superiority and the victim’s disability, grabbed the woman by the arm and, holding her, threatened to kill her,” says Staff Sergeant Anna Tersa of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. “He then took the woman’s mobile phone, PLN 20 in cash and her documents, and left the scene.”
Detectives quickly established who the perpetrator of the robbery was and, the following day, arrested a 39-year-old resident of Legnica suspected of the crime. (They also recovered the stolen phone.)
Moreover, the arrested man also had the appropriation of a found bank card on his record; he used it nearly 50 times over the course of several days, as well as an attempted robbery. (Interestingly, in the latter case he also attacked... an elderly woman. He tried to snatch her handbag. However, he did not achieve his intended goal because of the victim’s resistance.)
The man had already been convicted of similar offenses. The court ordered his temporary detention for three months. The repeat offender could now face a sentence of between two and as many as 18 years in prison.
