On January 29, after 9:00 p.m., officers from the Lubin District Police Headquarters received information that a drunken mother caring for a 6-year-old child might be in one of the apartments in the city. According to the information given to the duty officer, the six-year-old had cut his finger with a kitchen knife, and the woman was not opening the door. “The fire brigade and emergency medical services were already at the scene. The person who reported the incident had called them after being unable to enter the apartment,” explains asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.
The police immediately went to intervene. In the apartment, they found a 39-year-old woman and her 6-year-old son. The mother smelled strongly of alcohol, and her speech was slurred. It turned out that the 39-year-old was completely drunk, with nearly 3 promille of alcohol in her system. Nevertheless, she told the officers without any embarrassment that she saw nothing wrong with it. (The apartment was generally untidy: beer bottles were scattered around, and the balcony door was wide open).
The six-year-old boy was examined by a doctor and placed in the care of a designated adult.
The woman was arrested and taken to a police cell. After sobering up, she was charged. At the officers’ request, the district prosecutor placed the 39-year-old under police supervision and ordered her to abstain from drinking alcohol. Lubin District Police Headquarters:
If it is established that the mother’s irresponsible behavior exposed the child to a direct threat to life or health, she could face up to five years in prison.
