On January 28, at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań, the local court remanded for three months the perpetrator of a murder that took place on January 25, 2020, in one of the apartments in Zaręba, a village near Lubań.
Several men who had been drinking alcohol were in the apartment at the time. During the gathering, 56-year-old Waldemar B. stabbed his brother, Piotr B., in the chest area. The victim died. (The police and a medical rescue team were called to the scene.)
The perpetrator was detained and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań, where he was charged with murder. The suspect confessed and gave an explanation.
Investigators:
Waldemar B. had already been charged with a similar offense in 2010. At that time, he also fatally stabbed another of his brothers. The District Court in Jelenia Góra found that he had acted while exceeding the permissible limits of self-defense and sentenced him to five years in prison. Following an appeal by the defendant’s defense counsel, however, the Court of Appeal in Wrocław acquitted him of the alleged offense.
B. now faces imprisonment for no less than eight years, 25 years’ imprisonment, or life imprisonment.
